Jocassee means “Place of the Lost One” in Cherokee, which makes sense since Lake Jocassee is one of South Carolina’s most remote areas. The lake has crystal clear water from the rivers of the Appalachian Mountains. It is known for its beautiful 75 miles of primarily undeveloped shorelines and stunning waterfalls that fall directly into the lake.

The lake itself is a beautiful place to enjoy boating, skiing, swimming, and fishing. Five state record fish have come from Lake Jocassee!

The only public access to the lake is through Devil’s Fork State Park, which is an excellent place to camp and has many boat ramps and hiking trails. In addition to the campground, the park also has fully furnished villas for overnight stays. Since public access is limited, if you are lucky enough to buy a lakefront home on Lake Jocassee, you will likely have the water all to yourself.

Real Estate

Living on Lake Jocassee comes with a special sort of seclusion and exclusivity that few can attain. Here at Bob Hill Realty, we keep on top of the Lake Jocassee real estate market. If you indicate that this is where you want to buy your next home, we will make sure you hear about it before anyone else does.

Finding a home to buy or rent in Lake Jocassee is no easy task. Since most of the shoreline and surrounding areas are protected, there aren’t many lakefront structures.

There are only sixty, or so, homes on Lake Jocassee. One or two new homes get built at a time. To further complicate the home search, many of the houses in the area have never been sold. They have been family-owned for generations and will likely stay that way.

Home Values

When homes become available on Lake Jocassee, you can expect them to come with a premium. Lakefront homes will likely cost you over one million dollars. However, it may be easier to find a plot of land and build your dream home on the lake.
