Upstate South Carolina has some of the most beautiful lakes and lakefront property available in the state. While there are many lakefront options, Lake Jocassee is known as one with the fewest developments along its shorelines, as well as being one of the clearest lakes, if not the clearest lake, in South Carolina.

Lake Life

Living on the water is known to reduce stress and improve your quality of life at a core level. When you add the beautiful scenery, surroundings, and possibilities that Lake Jocassee offers – you will find yourself living your best every single day.

For the adventurous, of all levels, lake life offers a true immersion experience with nature. This is true for those who want to be on the water by kayak or boat, love to hike and camp, or just enjoy your personal space on a back porch swing.

Lake communities in the area extend the leisure and the adventure by offering community centers, parks, festivals, events, shopping, and eating options that are nearly endless.

Whether a young family, someone looking for a life surrounded by nature, or for those who are retired and plan to take life easy, nothing compares to Lake Jocassee lake life.

About The lake

Lake Jocassee itself encompasses 7500 acres of river-fed water from the Appalachian mountains. This water is cool and clear and ripe for those looking to spend days on the water relaxing, fishing, or exploring.

In partnership with Duke Power, Lake Jocassee was developed in 1973. This 300-foot deep reservoir was formed by the construction of the 385 foot Jocassee dam. Duke Power creates energy through the Jocassee hydro station (which is a 710 megawatts hydroelectric power station).

Proximity

The Lake Jocassee area is about 20 miles to both Salem and Pickens, South Carolina – with Greenville at 40 miles. Devils Fork State Park is located along the lake and provides the only public access point to the water. The park is also the place to explore hiking trails and camp.

Recreation

Lake Jocassee recreational opportunities include boating, kayaking, fishing, visit the waterfalls at Jocassee Gorges, swim, or even go for a climb on Sassafras mountain.

There are ample restaurants along the coastal areas of Lake Jocassee that each provide their own flavor and flair. Some of these include:
