These districts feature some of Seneca’s best shopping, dining, and art galleries.
The Lunney Museum is another point of interest rich for the history lover. This museum focuses on the Lunney family as well as residents of Seneca in the early 1900s. The museum is housed in a bungalow that was built in 1909 and features beautiful stained glass windows, chandeliers, and other exhibits.
Nearby Lakes and State Parks
For the outdoor enthusiast, there are several lakes and state parks where you can boat, fish, hike, or camp. Some of the most popular include:
- Lake Keowee – Man-made reservoir about 15 miles away from Seneca. This beautiful lake covers about 18,500 acres and has 300 miles of shoreline, and is the perfect setting for a fun weekend getaway or summer vacation.
- Lake Hartwell – Another manmade reservoir which is in both South Carolina and Georgia. Lake Hartwell covers about 56,000 acres and has 962 miles of shoreline. It is one of the southeast’s most popular recreation sites. There are 524 campsites available which have restrooms, showers, and electric and water hookups. There are also great fishing and water sports opportunities on Lake Hartwell.
- Lake Jocassee – a smaller, 7,500 acre man-made lake about 30 miles north of Seneca. The lake has cool water year-round and is within the Devil’s Fork State Park.
- Oconee State Park – The South Carolina State Park system is hard to beat. Take the Palmetto Connector Trail down to the historic site at Oconee Station. This is a great place to go bass fishing during the winter months. Along with fishing and hiking, the Oconee State Park has the only mini-golf course in the state park system.
