Central, South Carolina

Central is a town located in Pickens County, South Carolina. The town’s name actually comes from the fact it is the midway point between Atlanta and Charlotte. This was significant to the founders, Atlanta and Richmond Air Line Company, who founded the town during the railroad boom in the late 1800s.

Central is home to many local sporting events, outdoor concerts, festivals, and public parks. The town offers many local businesses and eateries for residents to enjoy. The Central Community Center is actually an old schoolhouse that was built in the 1940s.

The website Area Vibes gives Central high marks in schools, safety, and cost of living. For local schools, they test 31% higher than the national average.

Central boasts an array of rich history, natural beauty, and cultural experiences. It is the self-proclaimed town with “big-city amenities and small-town hospitality.”
